Bowel issues range from mildly irritating to life-threatening and requiring medical intervention. What and how we eat may help or worsen the issue, and it’s important to eat in a way that complements any medical treatment that may be happening. Many herbs have been traditionally used for support in those with bowel issues and science is finally starting to look into this untapped resource in supporting bowel health. We’ll get into herbs that specifically reduce gut inflammation, help heal the lining and improve digestive function higher up the chain to reduce stress to the gut. Importantly, when it is appropriate to use herbs and when it’s not will be touched upon…this is very important in those taking medications or with autoimmune issues. I’ll also share some recent research into probiotics…the outcomes aren’t quite as straightforward as you’d think!
